Recovery

After the surgery patient is taken to the recovery room where they are observed for a few hours. During this time we make sure that there has been no negative reaction to the anaesthetics used, and we check and exclude possible postoperative complications like haematomae or haemmorhagae. Sometimes patients may have the feeling of discomfort, tensions and pain around the operation spot because the local anaesthesia stops working. All those symptoms are effectively eliminated with analgesics. Within a few hours after the operation patient may suffer from nausea caused by the drugs used in general anaesthesia or the painkillers. Therefore our patients are requested to restrain from eating at least 6-8 hours before the surgery.

Usually patients do not need to stay in clinic longer than 24 hours. After that time patients are driven home or to their hotel. During first 3-4 days after the surgery majority of the postoperative swellings gradually recede and patient is coming back to their optimal shape. Initially patients are required to turn up at the clinic to change the dressing and check the drains positioning every day. The drains are removed within a few days (3-4) and during that time the patient should avoid baths or soaking the wounds in still water to prevent possible infections. After the drains have been removed it is allowable to wash the body with a sponge and a shower.

The healing process after the surgery may take up to a few weeks. During that time the patient may expect different kinds of symptoms: hypoaesthesia around the operation area, itching, pins and needles as well as others, all of which recede in time.

Our patients are requested to contact us any time should they have any queries or doubts.
