WHAT IS ABDOMINOPLASTY:
Abdominoplasty is performed in order to remove excess of lax skin and
subcutaneous tissue. Also the tummy tuck procedure aims at improving
tension of abdominal skin. The surgery is performed under general
anaesthesia. It consists in transversal incising of skin in supra-pubic
area and then separating the fat-skin layer from the muscle aponeurosis
to rib arcs border. Upon tightening of the abdominal skin the
circularly incised navel is implanted in new location. The abdominal
wall is tightened by corrugating the straight muscles of abdomen. After
the operation the tension is improved and the abdominal tegument
flattened, however, lower abdomen scar and a circular scar around the
navel remain. Most often this surgery is combined with liposuction
which enables to get rid of excessive volume of fatty tissue from sides
and the upper part of abdomen.
WHAT ABOUT RECOVERY:
For 2-3 days after the surgery patient should spend with his hip joints
slightly bent and with a soft, elastic dressing on. After 1 day first
attempts are made at putting the patient on his feet. Usually the
dressings are kept for ca 2 weeks time. Drains are removed between day
2 and day 7 and the stitches are taken out seven days after the
operation.
WHAT ABOUT CONVALESCENCE:
Usually patients do not resume work until ca 10-14 days after the
operation. Elastic garment is recommended for the period of two months
after the surgery.
